Backwoods Comedy from Dumb and Dumbers Harry
So what has Dumb and Dumber actor Jeff Daniels been up to recently? Well besides the fine Good Night and Good Luck and the esoteric Squid and the Whale, he wrote a hick comedy called Escanaba in Da Moonlight. This sophomoric tale shows Rueben Soady’s struggle to see his son get a buck before deer season ends.
The script ended in a cheesy B-movie back in 2001. But somewhere between now and then, the play version caught the hearts of rednecks and aristocrats, won some awards, and bang now the Des Moines Playhouse is bringing it here. The humor is a little backwoods, but the show has gotten good reviews across the US.
Starting November 7th, you can catch the Soady Family every Wednesday through Sunday til the 23rd at the playhouse. Show times differ from day to day and tickets are between $20 - $35. All the info can be found here.
P.S. If you’re a Young Professionals Connection member, the YPC has a special deal for a free sneak peek on the 6th. Check the YPC at Twitter (@YPCDSM) for more info. While you’re there, friend us at @RockIowa
