Coffee Shop Ramblings…

Lots happening in DSM. Des Moines Social Club just got awarded $100,000 by a foundation towards their goal of creating a theatre/art space in downtown. Could be some good future story material. Two videos went up recently, you can see them below. Andrew actually shot them a couple weeks back but I got wrapped up in the South Dakota movie production which pretty much sapped me of all my energy and kept me away from the computer for longer than is healthy for a person as addicted to the Internet as I am. So thanks to Andrew for getting those together and for the folks featured in being patient waiting for them to be posted. If I do say so myself the 16:9 sexy Rock Iowa interface is a lot easier to stomach than squishy pixelly ol’ YouTube.

More 80/35 updates of late. I was crushed to hear that Girl Talk had to cancel. Scheduling conflict, same old story. Very excited about the line-up additions, though. A slew of great locals have been added in addition to Andrew Bird, Jakob Dylan, and Black Francis (Frank Black of Pixies fame).

Back in the day the names at the top of the list were always Radiohead, Beck, The Flaming Lips, and The Pixies that we thought would blow people’s minds. 1.5 out of 4 ain’t too shabby at all.

Cat is gearing up for the Des Moines Arts Festival. She’s one of the Iowa Emerging Artists this year. She’s also got some pictures and updates from the Des Moines Obama rally over at our Please Obey blog.

That’s it. Love the Wi-Fi at Mars. Only wish I drank coffee, or that Vitamin Water was cheaper. later - scott
