Please Go To This: Adam and Dave’s Bloodline

bloodlineI grew up into the whole Christian subculture and along the edge of all the CCM music was the counter-culture music of Tooth and Nail Records. Bands like MxPx, Plankeye, Anberlin, Bleach, Ghoti Hook, The Blamed, OC Supertones, and many more were spun in my discman. Very few of these bands made it to the midwest to tour. And if they did, it was a big deal. My friends and I were always the first to get tickets. One band that was even on the fringe of the Tooth and Nail roster was Squad 5-0. Grungy, straight up rock and roll (some of them started in Ramones tribute bands), with no shame and a little bit of glam, Squad 5-0 played raucous live shows in the darkest holes of venues I’d had ever been to. They cussed! They wore makeup! Were not a typical Christian band. After signing to Capitol and kicking out the killer disc, Late Breaking News, the Squad faded from the view without as much as a press release to their breakup. A number bands came out of Squad’s demise like Marah and Gasoline Heart but I never caught up with all them.

So then I recently see a Philly band called Adam and Dave’s Bloodline coming to play the Mews on Aug 17th. The name enough had me intrigued. Their sound was different (hearing alot of Starflyer 59, Pyschadelic Furs, and 80s synth) but yet the vocals were so familiar. A quick google check later, and Bam, some of these guys were in Squad Five-0. If you hated the Squad, no worries, this band is totally different. If you ever caught Marah, it’ll give you a clue to what to expect. At times it is driving synth rock and other times twangy pop orchestra. Either way, you’ll be groovin. Plus touring buddies Grammar Debate play lovely pop rock. You will love this. So come join me August 17th, 10pm at the Vaudeville Mews.
