The Magazines are New, Their Names are not

Submitted by Andrew Roger on July 8, 2009 – 9:46 amOne Comment

magazinesThe Magazines are a new band from the Ames/Des Moines area, but their faces, names, and other bands are well-known across the Midwest. Currently ringleader Bradford Johnson (Cardboard Canary, Rosefield Rivals, Stallions Versus Unicorns) has teamed up with Mason Viera (The Lifestyle, Rich Kids Making Music), Scott Gratton (River and Tributaries, Finn Miles), James Laugerman (James and James), and Scott Yoshimura (The Envy Corps). Their upcoming record is being recorded by Logan Christian, a staple on the Mews sound team. And surprisingly the song I’ve heard is a great mix of straight rock and roll, a little folk and punk with some good fun atmosphere.

Bradford and James will be playing unplugged at Cafe Milo in Ames on July 10th at 7pm. Good time to check the hype.

Check out a behind the scenes video with an exclusive track at their facebook page.

I met these guys at Java Joes, in DM. They were fucking around with some shitty keyboard, singing harmony to a little riff. They were just messing around and it was damn catchy none-the-less.

Anywho, Bradford (I Think it was)went out and got me their CD (”Please Come Home”

Not expecting much Iwas floored by how much I dig it!

The opening tack “Tomorrow” and track 4 “The Bottom Line” were exceptionally great, and track 7, an electronic remix of “The Bottom Line” also stood out for me. All 7 tracks were well above par, I woulda payed for this CD for sure. Luckily Bradford gave it to me, a little case of the old right place right time!!!

    Thanks fellas! Keep rocking!!
