The Avett Brothersimg_46621

Hoyt Sherman Place – Friday, June 26th, 8:00 pm – All Ages – $20-27 (bluegrass/acoustic/pop)

I had heard some murmurings about these guys before I headed off to Sasquatch but hadn’t taken the time to check them out.  Several people told me to make sure I saw them, so sure enough there I was sitting on the lawn for their afternoon set.  And I was blown away.  First of all, they look like older, manlier Jonas Brothers (minus one).  I was immediately intrigued.  They started with some hard-rocking bluegrass that had even the most skeptical of my friends bobbing her head.  Their sound also encompasses sweet pop sounds, similar to something you would have heard in the sixties, but all the while staying true to their North Carolina bluegrass roots.  Check them out!

Vaudeville Mews – Saturday, June 27th, 9:30 pm – Showtime: 10:00 pm – All Ages – $5 (instrumental/metal/ambient)

I have beamed on and on about the Autumn Project before.  And I’m not going to stop.  Their new album, “This We Take With Us,” is being released and the Vaudeville Mews will be hosting the release party.  Come out and support beautiful local music!  I’m sure this show will attract a decent-sized crowd so at the least it will be ripe for people watching and elbow rubbing with those in the know in the Des Moines music scene.
