Imagine making a mixtape of some of your favorite local acts. You might start out with some Cleos Apartment acid jazz, move to some thought provoking hiphop of Gaiden Gadema, slow it down with Wet Chemistry, dream with Deep Sleep Waltzing, and sing along with Adam robert hauG. Well don’t bust out your reel to reel yet. The 5th incarnation of the Under the Microscope Comp series will be here on Friday the 15th at the Vaudeville Mews.The compilation itself is a mixtape filled with over 20 Iowa artists with sounds ranging from punk, folk, ska, hardcore, hiphop, and funk. The show will feature 5 of the bands on the mixtape inclusing Druids, Orville Sash and Atombender. Cost is $5 and if you are one of the first 100 people you’ll get the exclusive cassette version of the comp. Otherwise there will be plenty of free CDs.
Now here is where the show goes from great to kickass.
If you can shell out another $2 ($7 total) you can stay around for the Deep Sleep Waltzing album release. Along with the DSW boys, Omaha’s Oui Bandits and LA’s So Many Wizards perform. Then get ready to ride the dreamwaves of Deep Sleep Waltzing’ trip-folk-hop. For $7 and a free mixtape, there is no reason you shouldn’t be at this show.

Wow this was a great show. The highlights were definitely Knuckled Down, Oui Bandits, and of course Deep Sleep Waltzing. Pick up DSW new album, now! Did anyone else see it or have you listened through the mistape yet?
