thrillkillMy Life With the Thrill Kill Kult

People’s – Thursday, May 14th, 9:00 pm – 21+ – $15 advance/$20 door (industrial/techno/rock)

[I have seen in various places they broke up today, but no solid confirmation of the show being cancelled so I am leaving this as is.]  These guys have been around for a long time, and for good reason.  Pioneers of the industrial music genre, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult emerged from Chicago in the mid-eighties with their dark yet dance-y sound and have not turned back.  At first recognized most for their dark, “satanic” sound, the band has been continuously evolving and now there is more focus on a “sleazy disco sound.”  Their live shows have also garnered much attention and I am curious as to how People’s will accommodate their theatrics and large number of “characters.”  All in all, this will be an entertaining and interesting show, a must-see for fans of the industrial

The Autumn Project (with Statocyst and Pontiak)autumn

House of Bricks – Friday, May 15th, 9:30 pm – 21 + – $7 (rock/experimental/progressive)

I am pimping this show for very personal reasons.  When I first moved to Des Moines in fall of 2004, I knew no one.  I had come from a musically vibrant college town filled with friends and shows and suddenly I felt alone and silent.  Through Myspace, I was informed by a local of a show at Vaudeville Mews I should check out.  I went, and was blown away.  First, by the Mews (here I am raving over the Mews when discussing a show at another venue . . . ).  Next, by the crowd.  Here they were, the people in Des Moines who like music!  I wasn’t alone!  Finally, I was blown away by The Autumn Project.  Beautiful music you can get lost in accompanied by even more beautiful video work.  If you have not checked them out before, I highly suggest you do it.  The expressive, instrumental music by this local band will take you places without having to leave town.
