Guaranteed Good Times: May 21st – 27th
Raise High the Roof Beam (with Electric Junction)
Vaudeville Mews – Thursday, May 21st, 9:30 pm – Showtime: 10:00 pm – All Ages – $5 (folk/jam/pop)
Featured guests at this week’s inaugural Indie Rock Potluck, Raise High the Roof Beam hail from Chicago and are here to bring the fun. I mean, come on, they even use the current “it” instrument-the ukulele! Their harmonies are hard to beat, and their music has been said to even have the most cynical person bobbing their head. Drawing comparisons to Animal Collective and the Arcade Fire, RHTRB will keep you entertained both at the free acoustic potluck and the Mews show with full instrumentation. Here’s an idea: go to both and see which version you like the best! Accompanying RHTRB is Des Moines’ Electric Junction, another great band you simply must see!
Naomi Greenwald
Mars Café – Friday, May 22nd, 8:30 pm – All Ages – FREE (Americana/folk/indie)
First of all, I must start off by saying I love the idea of these free shows at Mars Café. Perfect for those with short attention spans who can multi-task with board games or work, yet still be exposed to live music. Naomi Greenwald is a rising America singer/songwriter who pieces together works of modern folk with true craftsmanship. Described as “modern yet nostalgic,” Greenwald creates simple, honest songs that will tug at your emotions in every direction. Stop by the show, grab a coffee, tell your friends. Really, you have nothing to lose.
