Guaranteed Good Times: April 2nd – 8th
Mansions (with The Lives Of Famous Men and Funks G)
Vaudeville Mews - Sunday, April 5th, 5:00 pm – Showtime: 5:30 pm – All Ages – $10 (indie/pop/rock)
Named by Alternative Press as “One of the 100 Bands You Need to Know,” Mansions is also one of the bands you need to see this week. Although actually the work of just one man, Christopher Browder, on tour Mansions is Browder, Andrew MacGregor, and Salvatore Cassato: three dudes who will for sure have a crowd of heads nodding in unison this Sunday at the Mews. Listen to the lyrics-they’re good. Especially when delivered by Browder. The Lives of Famous Men, one of the “Top 21 Unsigned Artists of 2008″ according to Pure Volume, will also be bringing the noise. They’re worth checking out as well, especially if you like unique vocals of the Daryl Palumbo variety. Funks G of Des Moines will be rounding out the roster.
Good Old War (with Tyborn Jig and North of Grand)
House of Bricks – Sunday, April 5th, 5:00 pm – All Ages – $8 (indie/folk/rock)
People will have a very important decision to make this Sunday evening: Mansions at the Mews, or Good Old War at the House of Bricks. Truly a tough decision, as both shows are guaranteed to be equally sweet. Good Old War, on the excellent Sargent House label, is really something–sweet dude harmonies that are reminiscent of Crosby, Stills, and Nash, accompanied by melodies that are catchy as all get out. I’m really a fan of all this music that has been coming out the past few years that meshes the folk sensibilities of the past with the modern day indie sound. Good Old War is one such band. Local bands Tyborn Jig and North of Grand will be exuding energy beforehand to get the crowd ready to participate in some Good Old War.
Beep Beep (with The Show Is The Rainbow, Beati Paoli, and Christopher The Conquered)
Vaudeville Mews – Monday, April 6th, 7:30 pm – Showtime: 8:00 pm – All Ages – $8 (experimental/rock/pop)
Saddle Creek’s Beep Beep will be gracing our town with their presence this coming Monday. Their sound has been described as “schizophrenic,” as it combines elements from dance punk, math-rock, and noise pop. The music may come off to some as aggressive, but yet to others that is a desirable trait. Come out and support our neighbors to the west at this show! From Nebraska as well, The Show Is The Rainbow will complement Beep Beep, and locals Beati Paoli and Christopher the Conquered will spice things up a bit with their unique flavors.
